Deprecate, Unpublish and Delete Content
In this section, you'll find the rules and differences between deprecating, unpublishing and deleting content in StackSpot.
Deprecation
Deprecation occurs when published content (such as Stacks, Plugins, Actions, and Starters) needs updated information and newer, more up-to-date versions are available.
Instead of deleting outdated content, you can deprecate it. After deprecation, the deprecated content remains usable within StackSpot.
Who can deprecate content
Anyone with an Action type DEPRECATE in the StackSpot resource (such as Studio, Plugin, Action, etc.) can deprecate content.
Content that can be deprecated
- A version of a Plugin
- A version of an Action
- A version of a Stack
- A version of a Plugin within a Stack's version
- In this case, the Stack will receive a tag indicating the content's deprecation.
- A version of an Action within a Stack's version
- Similarly, the Stack will receive a tag indicating the content's deprecation.
- A Starter within a Stack's version
Effects of deprecation
StackSpot will notify users who utilize the deprecated content via email and display a warning message when they attempt to use it.
Deletion and Unpublishing
The main difference between deletion and unpublishing is that deletion removes the content from its usage (such as a Plugin within a Stack). In contrast, unpublishing makes the content entirely unavailable, causing it to cease to exist.
Who can delete or deprecate
Anyone who owns or belongs to a team within the Studio where the content is published can delete or deprecate content.
Rules for deletion and unpublishing
- You cannot delete or unpublish the version of a Plugin, Starter, or Action that is required by other content.
- Versions of Plugins or Actions that are shared on the StackSpot Hub cannot be deleted or unpublished.
- Deleting or unpublishing a version of a Plugin or Action currently used in one or more Workspaces is not allowed.
- You cannot delete or unpublish the version of a Plugin or Action used in one or more Stacks.
- If you delete only one version of a Plugin or Action, you effectively delete the entire Plugin or Action. This rule also applies to Starters and Stacks.
